CIT Quilt 2010

March 9th, 2010

WELCOME QUILT at CIT is on again!!

We are ready to start our new Welcome Quilt with the new migrants and refugee students at CIT.

Many of the students have come from war-torn backgrounds, lived for many years in refugee camps and/or lost family members. Others have recently arrived in Australia on family reunion visas. All need to be touched by human kindness.

We help the students to make one block, which we then tie together with ribbon to make a quilt to display at CIT.

The design of each block is something to do with each student’s country of origin or something special to them. The talk about it and write about it and display their work proudly.

The focus of the activity is community and English conversation, but there are many more benefits for the students and the ‘helping teachers’.

If you can volunteer to help please contact Bronnie Bunnett:

Day meeting on 25th February

March 8th, 2010

The Community Room of the Tuggeranong Library proved to be a great venue for our day meeting on 25th February with plenty of space, good lighting and a comfortable kitchen area. A number of members brought pieces they were working on, including the Japanese folded flowers from the previous night meeting. There was much sharing and showing and discussion of techniques. Lyn , a visitor from the Townsville Fibres & Fabrics Association, showed a collection of postcards that members of that organisation had made and swapped.

The next day meeting will be held on Thursday 25th March from 10am to 2pm. All members are welcome to come, stay as long as you like, bring lunch if you choose and enjoy a couple of hours of socialising, sharing and learning new things.
