May June July Barbara Kelly, Jenny White, Vicki Woolley and Philippa Leask showed examples of the pieces they had dyed at the Procion dye workshop. Jenny Wilson showed her button and bead bracelet, button necklace and strip pieced jacket. Members were very interested in Jean Willoughby's French Flower, made using a technique that Jean was rediscovering. Dell Armistead had a wonderful selection of items to talk about. First she cautioned members to check colour graduations in variegated yarns after great disappointment with some she had bought at a craft show. She did show the vest she had made with the yarn which was of great interest because of the simplicity of design and knitting (A Patons Zhivago pattern). She then showed two quilts she had made - a large bargello ocean quilt and the small alphabet quilt she had made for the Quilters' Exhibition with the theme 'A Novel Idea'. Christine White and Bonnie Begg amazed with the samples they had from India Flint's Natural Dyeing Workshop. Samples included onion skin and iron on silk georgette, satin and cashmere; banksia n silk dupion; and other pieces dyed with red onion, eucalyptus, pumpkin and rusty wire. Jackie Hartley has been very busy felting and showed a felted hat, a very warm and lightweight vest and matching hat that she had made from a recycled rayon skirt, a felted wrap skirt, a wrap with Ulysses butterflies on each end and a beautiful piece of cotton fabric with drawn thread that had been brought back from Senegal for her. Carolyn Minto showed examples of handmade paper she had bought at the Euraba Paper Complany at Boggabilla. To end the meeting, Robyn Duncan demonstrated simple and effective origami boxes suitable for presenting items for the raffle. These are very effective made in heavier paper like calendar sheets or quality magazines. If you haven't seen these boxes, just ask Robyn for the directions. Anne Dickens
