Raffle Workshop held on May 31, 2008, from Gillian Hill

Everyone who participated in the Raffle Workshop at the Urambi Village Hall on Saturday 31 May agreed that it was a great day. Special thanks should go to the tutors, who not only gave their time freely, but generously shared their expertise to help members create varied and creative items for our Annual Raffle. Some new members may not know that this raffle raises funds to aid Mrs Dabrowski's Civic Soup Kitchen and supports her untiring work for the homeless.

Sue Barrett took us through the intricacies of creating a unique Bead & Button Bracelet. We will now look at buttons from quite a different artistic view! Mary Bates was available to give lessons on Silk Tie & Marbles or Wooden Bead Necklaces while Buffy Beggs took the utilitarian kitchen paper towel and showed us how to make attractive Paper Towel Beads for earrings, necklaces or whatever project you wished to put them on.

How to create lovely Dorset Button Brooches, using a simple brass ring and threads, was demonstrated by Robyn Duncan and Philippa Leask tutored an enthusiastic group on the finer points of making very eye-catching Felted Flower Brooches. Unique New Style Antique Rings were created in the session conducted by Carolyn Minto and much admired by everyone. Janice Neale led a Crochet Jewellery group and showed how to make charming and interesting jewellery using whatever you have in your stash.

Not only did the day produce new works and ideas, but it also enabled everyone to socialise and meet new members. For only $10.00, for the whole day, it must be the best value in town!
